Meet Mike

Mike Hendrix is a dedicated community activist who knows how to put Texas families first. After decades of working behind the scenes at the Capitol and in communities across the state, Mike and his family chose to make their home in Irving because they believe in its future—diverse, hard-working, and full of opportunity. In a community that’s growing exponentially, Mike believes that Irving deserves a representative that will carry that growth with them, not stall their progress. And now, Mike is ready to take that leadership and make Irving a model city for the rest of the state. Mike began his career in public service at just 19, becoming one of the youngest chiefs of staff at the Texas Legislature. He has served on numerous campaigns at all levels of government, and has fought at the Capitol for a series of issues important to the working families of Texas, such as Since then, he’s spent his career working to bring people together to solve real problems, whether it’s fighting for safer neighborhoods, smarter criminal justice policies, or protecting the rights and dignity of all Texans. In the Capitol, Mike wants to fight decades of inaction to build a future where kids are safe, small businesses can grow, and everyone has a fair shot of success, just as the American Dream promised. He’s not interested in partisan shouting matches or chasing headlines— he wants real, effective results. That’s why Mike has worked with organizations across the spectrum, from civil liberties groups protecting the rights of vulnerable populations, to public health advocates pioneering innovative new medicines to treat addictions, to make life better for Texans. Now, he’s ready to take that same commonsense, community-first approach to Austin. If elected, Mike will focus on the issues that actually affect families in Irving, like good schools, increased public safety, improving infrastructure, and expanding opportunities in Irving and beyond.

Issues

Every child in Texas deserves access to a world-class education, from Pre-K through postsecondary classes such as university, community college, or career and technical training. But session after session, instead of addressing the real needs of our schools, too many lawmakers are focused on culture war distractions that do nothing to help students, teachers, or families. While public school budgets are being stretched thin, the legislature is diverting your tax dollars to subsidize private education for a select few. And to cover it up, they rally behind targeting our students and teachers under “wokeness.” That’s not just poor politics, it’s poor public planning, and it’s why a lot of people have lost confidence in our government. As your representative, I’ll fight to refocus our education policy where it belongs: in the classroom. That means fully funding public schools, paying teachers the salaries they deserve, and rejecting harmful political interference like book bans and curriculum censorship. Every Texas family deserves to send their child to a school that’s safe, inclusive, and academically strong. I’m ready to work and stand firm to deliver the future our students deserve.

Gun violence is the leading cause of death for children in America, that is a fact we simply cannot ignore. Communities all across Texas have been battered by gun violence, and we find ourselves stuck between preserving our constitutional rights and ensuring that our communities are safe by removing these weapons from the streets. I believe in a Texas where both safety and freedom are possible. I will work to pass practical, effective legislation that reduces gun violence without infringing on constitutional rights. That starts with common-sense reforms that most Texans already support: closing background check loopholes, ensuring firearms are kept out of the hands of domestic abusers and violent offenders, and making real investments in mental health care and community-based violence prevention programs, alongside supporting law enforcement efforts to stop illegal gun trafficking, expanding access to crisis intervention resources, and listening to gun owners and public safety experts alike to create laws that actually work. Texans know the difference between responsible gun ownership and reckless inaction that put our families at risk, and I believe we can pass smart, effective laws to keep our communities safe from gun violence without infringing on the rights of responsible gun owners. I’m running to ensure that practical, proven reforms are passed in Texas while honoring our constitutional rights and values.

North Texas is growing fast, and Irving in particular has seen massive growth with new businesses moving into our little town. But far too often, working families are being left behind while big corporations keep the profits. As your next State Representative, I’ll fight for economic development that creates real opportunity for everyday Texans. That starts with putting Irving families first. I support expanding tax credits for working and middle-class households, because when families have more breathing room, they are able to spend locally, save for the future, and help drive a stronger economy for everyone. It’s time Texas stops giving away tax breaks to companies that don’t reinvest in our communities and start rewarding the people who keep our economy moving. I believe with this drive, we can help revitalize well-positioned jobs in a variety of sectors from film & tv production, sports, and green energy. Texas is known as a pioneer for innovation and development. I believe it is time to bring this history back to our beloved state. I’m running to bring back an economy rooted in fairness, innovation, and the idea that if you work hard, you should be able to thrive right here in North Texas.
